Cast in order of appearance

Simon Yaxley - Duncan

Simon has found the part of Duncan his most challenging to date. He has had to cut down on his marathon training (to a mere half hour every other week) and his healthy eating regime has gone completely out the window. Renée Zellweger’s dedication to a role is nothing by comparison. When not honing himself for the play, Simon is regularly locked in a small padded room at Lakeland Radio where he rambles on a daily basis from 10 till 2 on The Bit in the Middle.

Mark Skinner - Neil

Mark plays Neil, deputy team leader, ace mountaineer, solo rock-jock and all round top guy. Mark has appeared in several productions at The Brewery, including Blue Remembered Hills, The Rivals, Three Sisters, The Cripple of Inishmaan and Cabaret. He has also been a psychotic bicycle mechanic called Eric Spangle and a gentleman with special needs called Derek. This all goes to prove that, despite recently climbing the Matterhorn, Mark is not actually Neil and is indeed acting!

Denis Bland - Brian

Denis has performed in several roles for the Brewery Theatre Company since his stage debut in 2000. He was in the Grasmere Player’s recent production of Hobson’s Choice. He has worked hard to immerse himself in the role of Brian, the Rescue Team leader but has, however, refused to grow a beard in order to look more like a mountaineer.

Jacqui Wallace - Jenny

Jacqui first dabbled in drama whilst at Kirkby Kendal School, appearing in several musical productions. Since then, she's had a few other small parts (that's enough about her love life - Ed). She lived in California for 6 years, spending a year working as a horror make-up artist. Having returned to her home town of Kendal, she is making her acting debut with BTC and intends to steady her nerves with a stiff whisky beforehand; on the rocks, of course.

Rosie Wates - Charlotte

This is the second time that Rosie has appeared in a play by Colin and Andrew, having played Dinah in Adrian's Wall in 2004. Charlotte might be less eccentric than Dinah but she makes up for it with a whiplash tongue. Rosie has a history of playing strong women: Mrs Malaprop in The Rivals, Mrs Sparsit in Hard Times, Olga in The Three Sisters and Moya in Riven Rock Farm. Before moving to Kendal she had acted and directed in such theatrical hot spots as Islamabad and Lisbon but she considers Kendal the jewel in the crown of her theatrical endeavors.

Emma Aylett - Helen

Emma is a professional story-teller, but not used to performing in front of adults - working primarily in schools, her audience’s average age is 10 years. Having been in BTC's Oh What a Lovely War she was easily tempted to return to the adult stage with the promise of no dancing. On the Rocks has been a great experience and the part of Helen proved a real challenge and Emma has drawn on her past as a climber to rise to it.

Lynne Gibbons - Director

Lynne has been involved in theatre life for over 30 years performing in such plays as Educating Rita, Gaslight, Beyond Reasonable Doubt and The Caucasian Chalk Circle. She first became involved with BTC in Anne Pierson's production of Macbeth. This led to other roles in Blue Remembered Hills, Cabaret and, most recently, What Colour's Your Hoover? Her directorial debut for the BTC was the successful production of Abigail's Party, followed by Kiss of the Spider Woman. She claims that she has enjoyed being driven up the wall by the writers, cast and crew of On the Rocks.

Authors

Colin Shelbourn

Colin is a professional cartoonist whose work has appeared in Private Eye, Reader’s Digest and on the front of The Westmorland Gazette since 1984. He is also the author of several walking books. He has been noticeably absent from the fells during the production of On The Rocks, wary of falling off and having to be rescued.

Andrew Thomas

Andrew is a journalist and deputy editor of The Westmorland Gazette. Writing for the stage enables him to cast aside the rigors of newspaper life and enjoy a completely different type of writing. His collaborations with Colin include plays for radio (one of which was runner up in the Radio Times New Writing Awards) and the stage, including previous BTC productions of Natural Causes and Adrian’s Wall.
